PUNE — The Faraskhana police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly posed as hearing and speech impaired to steal jewelry worth ₹13.6 lakh from a store in Raviwar Peth on Saturday.

The incident occurred between 1:50 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at a jewelry store. According to the store’s 39-year-old owner, the suspect entered the shop pretending to be a customer. Using gestures to suggest he was hearing and speech impaired, the man distracted the owner.

Senior Inspector Prashant Bhasme of the Faraskhana police explained, “The suspect confused the store owner with his gestures, taking advantage of the distraction to steal a plastic box containing jewelry items like gold rings, earrings, and other valuables.

The theft was discovered later in the evening, around 8:30 p.m., when the store owner was closing up and noticed the plastic box was missing. Upon reviewing the store’s CCTV footage, the owner saw the man taking the box.

The store owner then filed a complaint with the police, providing the CCTV footage as evidence. The Faraskhana police are continuing their investigation to locate and apprehend the suspect.
