El Dorado, AR — In a vibrant display of creativity and craftsmanship, Denise Taylor, CEO of Taylor Jewelry and Design, has become a shining star in the local community. With a passion for handcrafted jewelry, she skillfully merges traditional and contemporary designs, offering unique pieces that resonate with her clientele.
A Journey Rooted in Community
Denise Taylor’s journey began in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where she was born before moving to El Dorado. After spending five years in Texas, her family returned to her hometown, where Taylor has deep roots. “I’m from El Dorado, but I was born in Arkadelphia,” Taylor explained. “We moved to Texas for about five years, but then we returned to El Dorado when I was five years old. My dad passed away at the young age of 48, leaving my mother and her siblings to carry on.”
Taylor graduated from El Dorado High School and briefly attended Southern Arkansas University (SAU) before discovering her passion for jewelry making. “I went to jewelry school to learn the craft,” she said, detailing the beginning of her professional journey.
Inspiration and Early Experience
Taylor’s interest in jewelry design was sparked by her experiences working with a friend in Magnolia, Arkansas, who was also in the jewelry business. “I had a friend who’s no longer in the business in Magnolia, Arkansas, that I worked with. I worked with all her customers for a while to see if I could do it and see if it was something that I loved,” she recalled.
Once she delved into the world of jewelry making, Taylor discovered her natural affinity for the craft. “I took to it immediately; I could do sizing and work with colors, diamonds, and stones,” she shared. However, she recognized the need for formal training to refine her skills further. “To be professional, I went to school. That’s where it all started,” Taylor added.
After completing her education, Taylor returned to El Dorado, where she worked alongside her friend for approximately three years before establishing her own business from home, a venture that lasted for two decades.
A Growing Business
Taylor’s burgeoning business eventually necessitated a move to a larger space. “At Simmons Bank, I worked on the second floor for about three years, and then my clientele got too big,” she explained. When a suitable building became available downtown on East Main, she seized the opportunity. “I moved in here and have been here for about 15 years,” she stated, reflecting on her journey as a small business owner.
Expertise and Craftsmanship
With 35 years of experience in the jewelry industry, Taylor has developed a keen eye for quality and authenticity. “I can look at something and tell you if it’s gold, silver, plated, or a combination of different metals,” she noted confidently. Her extensive knowledge extends to modern advancements in jewelry, such as lab-grown diamonds. “They make good lab-grown diamonds now, and you have to test it with a diamond tester. You have to know what you’re looking for,” she advised.
Taylor emphasized the importance of texture in identifying genuine stones. “It’s always a specific texture for that. But, I can tell you if a stone is a diamond or not just by the way it looks. After 35 years, you better know,” she said with a chuckle.
Customer-Centric Approach
One of the hallmarks of Taylor’s business is her customer-centric approach. She encourages clients to bring in pictures of the jewelry designs they admire. “I always ask them to bring in a picture of what they are leaning towards,” she explained. While the process may be time-consuming, Taylor takes pride in guiding her clients through it. “Sometimes it can take a long time to look at pictures and flip through models to figure out what they want,” she acknowledged.
When clients have their own stones, Taylor provides valuable advice on compatibility. “If they have their own stones, I can tell them what will and won’t work. But if they have a picture, then I can make it work,” she said, showcasing her commitment to customer satisfaction.
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Taylor is excited about the potential for growth in her business. “I want to do more custom work, have bigger lines, and bigger brands. But, right now this is all I can do,” she said, reflecting on her aspirations. Taylor’s dedication to her craft and her clients is evident, and her vision for the future is as bright as the pieces she creates.
Impact on the Community
Beyond her entrepreneurial success, Taylor is also committed to making a positive impact on the El Dorado community. Her handcrafted jewelry has become a symbol of local pride, showcasing the talent and creativity found within the area. By sourcing materials responsibly and focusing on quality, she contributes to the local economy and supports sustainable practices.
Her shop has become a destination for those seeking unique and meaningful jewelry, drawing customers from not only El Dorado but also neighboring towns. “I love being part of this community and seeing familiar faces come in,” Taylor expressed, highlighting the connections she has built through her work.
Supporting Local Arts and Crafts
In addition to her business endeavors, Taylor is passionate about supporting other local artists and craftsmen. She believes in the importance of collaboration within the community, often showcasing the work of fellow artisans in her shop. “It’s all about lifting each other up and creating a vibrant arts scene here in El Dorado,” she stated.
By providing a platform for local artists to display their creations, Taylor helps foster a sense of community pride and encourages others to pursue their creative passions. Her commitment to supporting local talent is a testament to her dedication to the arts.
The Journey Continues

“Every piece tells a story, and I want to help people find the perfect piece that resonates with them,” she said, emphasizing her belief in the emotional connections people have with jewelry.
As the community rallies around Taylor and her work, there’s no doubt that her contributions will continue to sparkle and shine, leaving a lasting impact on El Dorado for years to come.
