New York Regional Police have arrested six suspects and are searching for additional individuals involved in a daylight smash-and-grab robbery at a Markham jewelry store on Wednesday afternoon. The robbery occurred at Lukfook Jewellery, located on the lower level of CF Markville Mall, near McCowan Road and Highway 7.
Surveillance video circulating on social media shows the suspects, armed with hammers, smashing the glass at the front of the store before grabbing jewelry. Several suspects attempted to escape in a Honda Civic but collided with another vehicle at a nearby intersection.
The collision led to a police foot pursuit, with officers chasing the suspects on foot. Authorities have yet to release further details, but they continue to seek other individuals connected to the robbery.
This brazen crime highlights a growing concern over smash-and-grab robberies in shopping malls, especially in broad daylight. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
