Bigg Boss Season 14 winner and popular actress Rubina Dilaik recently inaugurated ‘Kultivated Karats,’ the first exclusive lab-grown diamond jewelry outlet in the Tricity area. The elegant store is located at NAC, Manimajra, Sector 13, Chandigarh. Rubina also toured the outlet and explored the exquisite jewelry pieces made from lab-grown diamonds.
The brand ‘Kultivated Karats’ is owned by Kubix Jewels LLP, based in Bengaluru, and the Tricity outlet is a joint venture with Deepak Gupta, a prominent jewelry industry entrepreneur from Chandigarh. Sampath Jain, Co-founder of Kubix Jewels, shared his excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to open our first outlet in Chandigarh under the joint venture. The store aims to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly, lab-grown diamonds, offering high-quality, affordable jewelry to consumers.”
The event also included an informative session led by industry experts, highlighting the benefits of lab-grown diamonds. Experts explained that lab-grown diamonds are more affordable than natural diamonds, primarily because natural diamonds are imported and mined at a significant cost. In contrast, lab-grown diamonds are created in labs using a scientific process, reducing costs substantially.
Experts further emphasized the sustainability of lab-grown diamonds, which are produced without the environmental impact caused by diamond mining. Unlike natural diamonds, which require heavy machinery and result in habitat destruction, lab-grown diamonds are created using more eco-friendly methods.
Mehek Jain, Co-founder of Kubix Jewels, elaborated on the process, stating, “Lab-grown diamonds are produced in controlled laboratory environments, and their physical and chemical properties are identical to those of natural diamonds mined from the earth.”
Deepak Gupta, Partner at ‘Kultivated Karats,’ highlighted the significant cost advantage of lab-grown diamonds, noting, “Lab-grown diamonds are approximately 80% less expensive than natural diamonds.” He also mentioned that the store features a wide range of jewelry, including rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and solitaires, with prices starting at Rs. 15,000. The store also offers unique lab-grown uncut (Polki) diamond jewelry.
Experts pointed out that lab-grown diamonds, just like natural diamonds, are certified by internationally recognized institutions such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), International Gemological Institute (IGI), and Solitaire Gemmological Laboratories (SGL). The Hallmarking process for lab-grown diamonds is identical to that of natural diamonds, ensuring the highest standards of quality.
The Indian government is actively promoting the lab-grown diamond industry, seeing it as an opportunity for India to become a major exporter of these sustainable stones. Mehek Jain emphasized the national benefits, saying, “The shift to lab-grown diamonds will help India conserve foreign exchange. Unlike natural diamonds, which are imported and then cut and polished in India, lab-grown diamonds are produced locally, which will lead to more job opportunities in the country.”
