Representatives from Armenia and Iran recently held high-level talks to explore opportunities for collaboration in the jewelry industry, focusing on potential joint ventures and export programs. The meeting, held on December 16, brought together leaders from both countries’ industry associations as well as Armenia’s Ministry of Economy.
Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Economy, Edgar Zakaryan, met with an Iranian delegation led by Mohsen Talay Minayi, the Executive Director of the Gold and Jewelry Export Consortium of Isfahan, and Chairman of the Board of the Association of Gold, Jewelry, Silver, and Gemstone Exporters and Producers of Isfahan Province.
The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the jewelry sector, with an emphasis on establishing joint production facilities and developing programs to export finished products to international markets. The Armenian representatives expressed their readiness to collaborate and implement these initiatives to stimulate growth in the sector.
While the potential for cooperation is high, Armenia’s jewelry industry is currently facing challenges. According to data from Armenia’s Statistical Committee, the sector has seen a significant decline in production. Jewelry production during the first ten months of this year fell by 28.1%, totaling approximately $93 million, compared to the same period in 2023. Despite these setbacks, both countries are optimistic about the opportunities for recovery and growth through collaboration.
