As the holiday shopping season reaches its peak, local businesses like Goldstein’s Jewelry in Mobile are experiencing a surge in foot traffic. According to the National Retail Federation, more than 157 million shoppers were expected to hit the stores on the last Saturday before Christmas, and many Mobilians were still on the hunt for that perfect gift.
For Goldstein’s Jewelry, Christmas is the most critical time of year. “We saw a lot of last-minute shoppers today. For some reason, men don’t realize it’s Christmas until the day before, and they rush in to find a beautiful gift. We’re always happy to accommodate them,” said Don Johnson, the store’s sales manager.
For Johnson and his team, Christmas is not only the busiest time of the year but also an exciting period for the small business. “We look forward to Christmas all year long. After the season ends, we immediately begin preparing for the next one,” he explained. Established in Mobile in 1879, Goldstein’s Jewelry has cultivated a loyal customer base who trust the store for quality, thoughtful gifts. “Our customers know they can rely on Goldstein’s for a gift that will make the recipient truly happy,” Johnson added.
The store has also seen customers go all out this season. “Some have really splurged and purchased some very special items. At Christmas, people tend to spend more, and we’ve sold some really beautiful pieces this year,” Johnson said.
The holiday rush doesn’t end after Christmas, either. Johnson anticipates continued traffic in the coming days as shoppers take advantage of post-holiday sales and exchanges.
