Sri Lanka’s President, Anura Dissanayake, has called on the country’s gem and jewellery exporters to set their sights higher, aiming to surpass $1 billion in exports. He urged the sector to unite in pursuit of this ambitious target. The President made the remarks at the inauguration of the ‘FACIETS Sri Lanka – 2025’ gem and jewellery exhibition, where he praised the exceptional craftsmanship of local entrepreneurs alongside global industry leaders.
In 2023, Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery exports totaled approximately $477.7 million, according to the National Gem and Jewellery Authority. However, the government is targeting a more ambitious goal of $3 billion annually from the export of precious gemstones and high-end jewellery in the coming years.
