Three masked suspects carried out a fast-paced “smash-and-grab” robbery at Kay Jewelers in Bluffton’s Tanger Outlets last week, making off with handfuls of jewelry from a shattered display case. The robbery occurred during evening hours, with an employee standing just 10 feet away when the theft took place. As of Tuesday, the crime remains unsolved, and the exact value of the stolen jewelry has not been determined.
This robbery follows a similar theft last month at the nearby Tanger II Outlets, where approximately 1,600 sunglasses were stolen, causing an estimated loss of $1 million.
A request for comment from Kay Jewelers was not immediately answered on Tuesday afternoon.
