An elderly couple in Vishrantwadi fell victim to a theft by three men posing as police officers. The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the perpetrators approached the couple under the guise of conducting a routine check.
The couple, Sulochana Tukaram Chikane (71) and her husband, were on their way to the hospital for a medical check-up when they were approached near Joshi Wadewale shop on Airport Road. Two men, pretending to be police officers, warned them about chain-snatching incidents in the area and advised that they remove their gold jewelry. A third man soon joined them and offered to keep the jewelry safe by placing it in their bag.
Trusting the men to be legitimate officers, the elderly couple handed over several pieces of valuable gold jewelry, totaling ₹2.75 lakh. The police are investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to identify the culprits.
