Jameel Mohammed will begin a one-year paid fellowship in Tiffany & Co.’s design department this March, following his win of the prestigious Jewelry Designer Award. The award also includes a $50,000 cash prize.
“This unique award reflects Tiffany & Co.’s dedication to inclusivity and highlights Tiffany Atrium’s mission to support new talent in the jewelry industry,” said Stéphanie Oueda-Cruz, Tiffany’s Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, in a statement to JCK.
Mohammed expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s the largest reflection of my entrepreneurial journey…. I’m so honored. I’m completely self-taught, so I’m always trying things, seeing what works and what doesn’t. It’s a great time to step back and analyze what’s happened and what’s next.”
Mohammed’s journey to the award included a four-month-long program with nine other finalists. He learned in January that he was the winner of the Tiffany x CFDA award. As part of his application, he created a collection called Wildflower, which tells a story of resilience, showcasing beauty triumphing over adversity, with a balance of strength, softness, and grace.
“We were able to experience Jameel’s inventive design perspective firsthand over four months, and we’re excited to have him join the Tiffany & Co. team,” said Oueda-Cruz.
