For the first time in three decades, the V&A Museum is hosting a major retrospective of Cartier’s iconic jewelry. Founded nearly 180 years ago in Paris, Cartier has long been a pioneer in the luxury jewelry market, known for both timeless designs and innovative creations.
“We often think of Cartier as the epitome of glamour and design, but it’s their ability to create pieces that are ahead of their time yet never go out of style that makes them truly special,” said curator Helen Molesworth.
The exhibition opens Saturday and is already sold out for April and May. However, visitors still have until November 16 to explore over 350 breathtaking pieces, including brooches, tiaras, necklaces, and earrings adorned with diamonds, pearls, and a spectrum of colorful gemstones.
Curators have sourced rare items from museums and private collections worldwide, including pieces belonging to King Charles III and Prince Albert of Monaco. Notable highlights include the stunning Williamson pink diamond rose brooch, created for Queen Elizabeth in 1953, which features a 23-carat pink diamond, one of the rarest and most flawless in the world.
Another standout is a tiara from 1902, set with 1,048 diamonds, worn by Clementine Churchill during Queen Elizabeth’s coronation. The tiara was also lent to singer Rihanna for a 2016 W Magazine photoshoot.
Also on display is a diamond engagement ring offered to Grace Kelly by Prince Rainier of Monaco, and a diamond rose brooch worn by Princess Margaret, the queen’s sister.
“We wanted to highlight Cartier’s legacy over more than a century of luxury,” Molesworth added.
One of the exhibition’s grand finales is a display of 18 tiaras, dating from 1900 to the present day, showcasing the brand’s enduring legacy in luxury jewelry.
