New insights into the recent Macy’s jewelry heist and subsequent high-speed pursuit have emerged following the acquisition of a search warrant by 12 News.
On Friday, a series of events unfolded at Mayfair Mall, prompting Wauwatosa police response in the early hours of the morning. Multiple burglar alarms, including a glass break alarm, alerted authorities to the west entrance of Macy’s, setting off a chain of events detailed in the warrant.
Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered a 2018 Kia Sorento positioned near the entrance. Remarkably, records indicated that this vehicle had been reported stolen by University Park police in Illinois just days prior, on March 22. The situation escalated rapidly as the Kia hastily departed upon police arrival, initiating a perilous pursuit reaching speeds of up to 115 mph.
Germantown Police Department joined the pursuit as the Kia traversed county lines, culminating in a dramatic crash off I-41 near Slinger.
Subsequent investigation at the scene unveiled a cache of stolen items strewn near the crash site, including Movado watches, earrings, necklaces, and rings—presumed to have been pilfered from Macy’s. Additionally, the search warrant disclosed that eight jewelry and fragrance cases within the store had been forcefully breached.
According to the court document, three individuals were apprehended following the crash, with two attempting to flee from authorities. A fourth suspect was later arrested at a BP Gas Station on County Line Road in Washington County.
Details from one of the detainees shed light on the premeditated nature of the burglary. The individual reportedly informed Wauwatosa police that they had arrived equipped with bolt cutters and a sledgehammer to facilitate the crime. Moreover, they had brought along a garbage can and a plastic tote, which were utilized to transport the stolen goods.
Despite the revelations, as of Monday night, none of the four individuals identified in the search warrant had been formally charged, leaving the investigation ongoing.
