Fancy Color Diamond Prices Slow Down Again

The increase in fancy color diamond prices slowed to just 0.1 percent for the second consecutive quarter, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).

The FCRF’s Fancy Color Diamond Index, which tracks prices for fancy color diamonds of various sizes and intensities,

grew steadily by 2.2 percent during 2023. However, it has recently lost much of its momentum.

Blue diamonds of all sizes and intensities fell by 0.4 percent during Q1 2024, the New York-based FCRF reported on May 21 in its quarterly update. Yellow diamonds decreased by 0.1 percent, while pink diamonds rose by 0.2 percent.

Fancy vivid diamonds of all colors increased by 0.4 percent, fancy intense stones rose by 0.1 percent, and fancies declined by 0.7 percent.

The market showed “overall stability with minor pricing changes,” according to the FCRF.

David Shara, an FCRF data supplier, commented: “Considering the fluctuations in most financial markets and the underperformance of colorless diamonds, it’s reassuring to see colored diamonds as a stable option in this financial climate.”

Since 2005, the FCRF has recorded an overall increase of 212.9 percent across all fancy color diamonds, led by pink diamonds, which have risen by 399.4 percent.
