Chanel Introduces New High Jewelry Collection Inspired by Sports

This summer, sports have captured Europe’s attention with events like the UEFA Euro Cup, the upcoming Paris Olympics, and Wimbledon. Chanel unveiled its latest high jewelry collection, “Haute Joaillerie Sport,” in Monaco this week, marking a timely debut amidst the sporting fever.

Designed by creative director Patrice Leguéreau, the collection features 80 pieces blending Chanel’s classic style with elements inspired by sports attire and equipment. Necklaces and earrings, for instance, cleverly incorporate high-tech aluminum tube chains resembling hoodie drawstrings. Another standout piece is a brooch that transforms a snap hook into a distorted number 5, a quintessential Chanel symbol.

Apart from its modern designs, this year’s collection stands out for its vibrant use of colorful stones. Marianne Etchebarne, Diretrice of International Product Marketing for Chanel Watches and Fine Jewelry, highlighted the collection’s clear, distinctive, and bold color palette. Sapphires, rubies, spinels, garnets, yellow diamonds, emeralds, and onyx feature prominently, with some stones exceeding impressive carat weights, such as a 35.10-carat sapphire used in a ring.

The collection also integrates color through lacquer and carbon fiber, adding a contemporary touch. Monaco, renowned for its sporting heritage with events like the Monaco Grand Prix and the Monte Carlo Masters, provided a fitting backdrop for the collection’s unveiling. Editors attending the event enjoyed festivities at Lagerfeld’s former summer home, La Vigie, and a gala dinner at the Casino de Monte-Carlo, attended by Chanel’s longtime supporter, Keira Knightley.
