Camilla’s Jewelry: Queen Mary’s Turquoise & Diamond Filigree Brooch

by Jasmine

Since ascending to the throne in 2022, Queen Camilla has frequently adorned herself with pieces from the late Queen’s collection, many of which carry significant royal histories. Among these treasures is Queen Mary’s turquoise and diamond brooch, previously kept hidden in vaults for decades.

This striking piece made its public appearance on the second day of Royal Ascot 2024, elegantly complementing Queen Camilla’s vivid blue attire.

The brooch boasts a central cabochon turquoise stone surrounded by a row of diamonds of varying sizes. Its design features intricate filigree or scrolling patterns, with a mix of stone cuts that form a rough heart shape.

Originally gifted to Queen Mary in 1893 by her in-laws, the Prince and Princess of Wales (later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra), the brooch remained in her possession until her passing in 1953. Thereafter, it was inherited by her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II wore the brooch sparingly, notably choosing it for significant events such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2015. Historic photographs reveal Queen Elizabeth pairing the brooch with a large pendant on previous occasions.

The brooch’s last known appearance on Queen Elizabeth II was during her televised address to the nation regarding the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
