An international exhibition of jewellery machinery will kick off in Dhaka on Thursday, aiming to integrate advanced technology into traditional jewellery practices and transform Bangladesh’s gold industry into an export-oriented sector.
Organized by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) in collaboration with Indian partner KNC Services, the three-day International Jewellery Machinery Expo Bangladesh (IJMEB) is the first event of its kind in the country. The expo will run daily from 11am to 7pm at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) under the theme “Technology for Excellence in Jewellery.”
Thirty companies from 10 countries, including India, Italy, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, China, and Thailand, have confirmed their participation in the inaugural event.
Bajus President Sayem Sobhan Anvir emphasized the need to focus on the jewellery industry, which has been overlooked for years, to help Bangladesh progress alongside developed countries. He highlighted the necessity of policy support for jewellers to attract new investments, which would help transform Bangladesh into a prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’. Anvir stressed the importance of private sector involvement along with public entities to enhance technological innovation and boost productivity.
Anvir expressed optimism that IJMEB 2024 will enrich the Bangladeshi jewellery industry through knowledge sharing among participating countries. He noted that the expo will introduce modern machinery to local jewellers, with the goal of revitalizing the Bangladeshi jewellery industry. To achieve this, he emphasized the need to upskill goldsmiths in line with global technological advancements in the jewellery sector.
Anvir also stated that embracing technology is crucial for expanding gold exports from Bangladesh. He underscored the importance of establishing new factories to drive growth in the jewellery sector and create new opportunities in the export market by integrating advanced machinery.
Kranti Nagvekar, founder and CEO of KNC Services, noted her company’s support for Bangladesh in hosting the international expo, following similar events in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and India. She praised the craftsmanship of Bangladeshi goldsmiths and highlighted the potential for Bangladesh to excel in global gold markets with the added value of advanced machinery.
Participating companies from India include Tishya CNC Engineering Works, Neo Instruments, Solanki Mechanic Works, Ira Corporation, Quantum Equipment, ACZET Solutions, and Pacio Traders. Italy will be represented by JTE and FASTI, while OTEC and GUVENIS will participate from Turkey, and DO IT Industries from China. Five Bangladeshi companies—Dreamz Instrument Technology, RAJAISWARI, Expert Instrument Technology, Trust Instrument Bangladesh, and RAT’s BD—are also participating in the expo.
