Folsom’s Rainbow Bridge Jewelers: Celebrating 45 Years of Craftsmanship and Community

FOLSOM, Calif. — Rainbow Bridge Jewelers, a longstanding fixture on Sutter Street in Folsom, has served the community faithfully for 45 years, becoming a beloved destination for generations of customers.

Co-owner Dorothy Cormack shared stories of loyal patrons, like a gentleman who annually adds a pearl to his wife’s necklace on their wedding anniversary. These relationships have been built over decades in the Historic District.

Founder Jim Kelly opened the shop in August 1978 after graduating from San Francisco State University with a degree in art, choosing jewelry over other art forms due to higher demand, Cormack explained.

Cormack joined Kelly as a partner in the early 1980s, later marrying him in 1985 after initially dating in 1981. Both artists, they crafted each other’s wedding rings.

Starting in a small split storefront, Rainbow Bridge Jewelers expanded in the early 1990s, taking over adjacent space when an antique glass shop retired. In 2005, they moved their main store to 721 Sutter St., while their original location now houses Season’s 916 café.

Cormack emphasized the importance of showcasing other jewelry artists, which transformed Rainbow Bridge Jewelers into a fine art gallery with over 40 represented artists today.

Reflecting on challenges like 9/11 and the Great Recession, Cormack noted that perseverance and adapting to online sales during COVID-19 were crucial for their survival.

Looking ahead, Cormack and Kelly hope to pass on their legacy to a new generation of art enthusiasts, ensuring Rainbow Bridge Jewelers continues to thrive as a hub for fine crafts and art in Folsom.
