ISLAMABAD:
Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has stressed the need for reforms and growth in Pakistan’s gems and jewellery sector to support the country’s economic expansion.
During a virtual meeting on Tuesday, attended by senior officials from both the public and private sectors, the discussion focused on boosting export potential and aligning with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of transforming this billion-dollar industry into a key pillar of the national economy.
Minister Khan noted that Prime Minister Sharif has convened several meetings in recent months to address the challenges facing the industry and explore new opportunities for its development. In the same meeting, Council Chairman Salman Hanif highlighted regulatory obstacles, particularly amendments to SRO 760, as significant barriers to the sector’s growth.
Hanif emphasized the importance of regularizing the industry, stating that without addressing these regulatory challenges, the sector would struggle to achieve its export targets.
