(IDEX Online) – The ashes of OJ Simpson have been transformed into lab-grown gemstones for his four children, serving as keepsakes to remember their father.
Malcolm LaVergne, Simpson’s attorney and estate executor, confirmed that each of his children—Arnelle, Jason, Sydney, and Justin—now possesses a piece of jewelry crafted from their father’s remains. Simpson, a former American football star and media personality, passed away in April at the age of 76 after battling cancer.
Simpson became widely known in 1994 when he was accused of the brutal murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman. Though he was acquitted of the charges, he was later found liable for wrongful deaths in a civil case, which resulted in a $33.5 million judgment. Years later, he was convicted of robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas, leading to further imprisonment.
Speaking to People magazine, LaVergne revealed that the total cost of the jewelry amounted to just over $4,000, though he did not elaborate on the specific items. “Each sibling was able to get jewelry, a reminder of their father to have with them,” he said.
Lab-grown diamonds and other gems can be created from human ashes by extracting carbon, providing a unique way to memorialize loved ones.
