Calcutta, Nov. 28 – Chirag Jewellers, a homegrown jewellery brand with over 50 years of history, has opened a new store at Aspirations Vintage, located on the third floor of 12 Pretoria Street. This new outlet marks a significant milestone for the brand, which began its journey in 1984 with its first store at BK Market. The second floor of the same building houses the brand’s back office.
“We’ve had an incredible journey since we started in 1972,” said Samir Shah, partner at Chirag Jewellers. His father, Rameshchandra Shah, founded the brand. “Looking back, it’s been a period of growth and learning. The city’s love for festivals and jewellery has always supported us, allowing us to evolve and expand. Our commitment to honesty and quality has been the foundation of our success,” Samir added.
Chirag Jewellers offers a diverse range of jewellery, specializing in diamonds, gold, and polki. According to Samir, their “timeless traditional luxury pieces” are still the bestsellers. “Customers continue to gravitate towards our classic gold necklaces and intricate bangles, particularly during festival seasons when they seek special pieces to celebrate with. However, we’ve also noticed a growing demand for contemporary designs among younger customers,” he explained.
When asked about changing trends in Calcutta’s jewellery scene, Samir highlighted the city’s evolution. “Calcutta has definitely become more discerning. People are now more informed about what they want, focusing on quality and certifications. Budgets have also increased, with customers willing to invest more in unique pieces that come with a guarantee of authenticity,” he said.
The new 4,500 sq ft store is not just a retail space, but a reflection of the brand’s journey. “It’s a symbol of our values – trust, quality, and commitment to our customers,” Samir said. “We take great pride in offering luxury jewellery that comes with quality certificates, making us one of the most trusted names in Calcutta.”
For the store’s opening, Samir organized a special photoshoot featuring Ushoshi Sengupta and Ankita Singh. The shoot showcased the store’s range of modern, statement pieces with a classic touch. “We’ve curated a collection that blends traditional elegance with modern trends, capturing Calcutta’s festive spirit. Each piece, adorned with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, tells a story of craftsmanship and luxury. It was an opportunity to showcase our passion and creativity,” Samir concluded.
