THORNTON, Colo. — Joyeria El Ruby, a jewelry store in Thornton, was the target of a burglary early Friday morning. Around 4:30 a.m., the Thornton Police Department responded to the break-in at the store located near Washington and 88th Avenue.
Surveillance footage revealed that three suspects, using crowbars, forced entry through two doors of the store. The thieves swiftly ransacked the business, making off with a significant amount of gold jewelry. According to store owner Xitlali Munoz, the entire operation was executed in a matter of minutes.
“They had a couple of minutes, it was all pretty fast,” said Munoz. “Two of them ran to the back, one hopped over the display.”
The suspects fled the scene in stolen vehicles, and at least one additional person is believed to have been waiting in one of the vehicles during the burglary. Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact amount of gold taken, but Munoz confirmed it was a large quantity.
“Its very sad to see all of the hard work, day in and day out, and just see it stripped away from you in a couple of minutes,” Munoz added, expressing her frustration. “It’s really sad. We’ve been here for 10 years, and this is the first time something like this has happened. We don’t feel as secure as we did before.”
The store has since made repairs to the damage caused during the break-in and is working on restocking their inventory. Munoz is urging the community to come forward with any information that could help identify the suspects.
“We’re just asking that the community can help us identify these men so we can have justice,” she said.
The Thornton Police Department is actively investigating the case, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact local authorities.
