CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Charleston Police have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery at a West Ashley jewelry store Tuesday morning.

James Dexter King, 52, faces multiple charges, including armed robbery and four counts of kidnapping for the robbery at Skatell’s Manufacturing Jewelers on Orleans Road. King is also charged in connection with a separate armed robbery on November 21 at the Pierpoint Coin Laundry, where he faces additional charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

Police responded to the reported robbery at Skatell’s around 10:38 a.m. Tuesday. Store employees told investigators that a man entered the store, displayed a firearm, and stole several pieces of jewelry. The employees were then restrained with zip ties during the robbery.

Shortly after 1 p.m., King’s vehicle was spotted in North Charleston. Charleston County deputies and North Charleston Police officers pursued him, ultimately arresting him after a brief chase.

Investigators say King was also involved in the November 21 robbery at Pierpoint Coin Laundry. During that incident, he allegedly brandished a firearm, stole money, and assaulted a person inside the business.

“This is an excellent example of local law enforcement working together to quickly remove an extremely dangerous criminal from our streets,” said Charleston Police Chief Chito Walker.
