Kashmir Sapphire Ring by Hancocks London Highlights Gemstone Legacy

by Henry

Hancocks London is showcasing the fascinating history of Kashmir sapphires with its December Jewel of the Month—a ring featuring a 1.89-carat octagonal step-cut sapphire. Set in platinum and 18k gold, the ring also includes approximately 1.3 carats of French-cut diamonds and intricate hand-engraved detailing. Priced at £95,000 (around $121,000), it offers a glimpse into the allure of these rare gemstones.

Kashmir sapphires hold an unparalleled place in fine jewelry, and this ring exemplifies the unmatched beauty and rarity of these stones,” said Guy Burton, managing director of Hancocks London. “Our commitment to sourcing the finest gemstones and crafting them into timeless pieces is at the heart of this creation.”

Kashmir sapphires were first discovered in 1881 when an avalanche in the Zanskar region of the Himalayas revealed a hidden deposit of these precious stones. Mining was limited to just five years, from 1882 to 1887, due to the harsh conditions and extreme altitude of over 14,500 feet. The sapphires, some as large as three to five inches, are now legendary for their exceptional quality and rarity.
