DeVries Jewelers Reopens with Expanded Space in West Michigan

DeVries Jewelers, a family-owned jewelry shop, has reopened its doors at 433 Leonard St. NW in West Michigan. The fifth-generation store now features three times the space, new jewelry collections, and an upstairs bar and event space for special occasions.

Dan DeVries, speaking at the ribbon-cutting event, shared his excitement: “We are thrilled to welcome both long-time customers and newcomers to our new store. This expanded space gives us more room to display jewelry, offer repairs, add new product lines, and host events—providing a more personal and enjoyable shopping experience.”

DeVries Jewelers was originally founded in 1901 by Siebern DeVries at 128 Leonard St. NW. The shop started by selling jewelry and eyeglasses, also offering repair services for jewelry, glasses, and clocks. In 1921, it shifted its focus entirely to jewelry.

After Siebern’s untimely death at 41, his wife Cornelia took over the business and led it through the Great Depression. In 1935, their son Gerald took control, followed by his son Dennis in the late 1980s. In 2008, Dennis’ sons, Dave and Dan, became owners, with Dan’s son Paul joining the team as general manager.

Sixteen years later, the family is committed to continuing their role in revitalizing the Leonard Street business district. This led them to purchase the former Lannings’ Restaurant & Catering property at 433 Leonard St. NW, where they demolished the building in January to make way for the expanded store.
