With just over a week left until Christmas, independent jewelers across North America are seeing a strong 2024 holiday season, driven by positive consumer sentiment and strong sales in both lab-grown diamonds and classic jewelry staples like diamond stud earrings.
“People are spending. Whether it’s in anticipation of better times ahead or spending it now before the end of the world, I can’t tell – seems to be about 50/50,” said Dan Neff, owner of Neff Jewelers in Saint Augustine, FL.
Alan Perry, owner of Perry’s Emporium in Wilmington, NC, noted a positive trend: “Trump Bump! Folks here are happier and spending more than last year. We’re up 34%!”
According to INSTORE’s second holiday season mini-survey, more than half of the jewelers who responded rated their holiday sales performance as “good” or “excellent.” Nineteen percent said their sales were “average,” while 30% reported their sales as “soft” or “dismal.”
