A new survey by NielsenIQ (NIQ) predicts that 80% of consumers will purchase natural diamond jewellery in 2025. The study, which included over 1,300 participants, highlights a strong preference for gifting, with 93% of respondents planning to buy gifts in the next 12 months, and 87% excited to receive them.
The survey also reveals that birthdays are the most popular occasion for gifting, with 77% of consumers hoping to receive natural diamond jewellery. Gifting remains a beloved tradition, particularly for birthdays (58%), anniversaries (40%), and holidays (31%). Natural diamonds hold significant value, with 89% of consumers considering them essential for jewellery.
When it comes to gift preferences, jewellery takes the lead, with 67% of respondents ranking it among their top three choices. Sparkling jewellery is the top pick for 34% of people, followed by travel (22%), fashion and accessories (20%), and electronics (14%). Interestingly, jewellery is also the most desired gift to receive, with 44% of respondents selecting it, ahead of travel (19%) and fashion (16%).
In terms of jewellery selection, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are the most popular. For those choosing natural diamonds, the key factors are the classic 4Cs—carat, color, clarity, and cut—important to 72% of consumers. Price (53%) and certification (49%) are also key considerations, along with design (46%) and origin (31%).
Social media is the primary source of information for 40% of shoppers, while 81% plan to make their diamond purchases in physical stores.
