Thieves made off with expensive jewellery in a bold heist last week, marking the second such robbery at the Tanger Outlets in Bluffton in less than a month.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, three masked individuals entered the Kay Jewelers store at Tanger 1 around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Armed with a red pipe wrench, one of the thieves broke into the front display case, while the other two began stealing jewellery. The robbery occurred while a store employee stood just 10 feet away, powerless to intervene.
As two of the robbers gathered as much jewellery as they could, the third attempted to break into a second display case but was unsuccessful. Deputies later found blood and skin near the second case, and they hope to use this evidence to obtain a DNA match that could help identify the thief.
After the failed attempt to open the second case, the trio fled the scene, heading towards Bluffton Parkway.
This robbery is the latest in a series of daring crimes at the Tanger Outlets.
