In a shocking incident in Supela, Bhilai, an elderly woman was swindled out of gold jewelry valued at over Rs 9 lakh by four unidentified ruffians. The criminals deceived the victim, Meena Bang, by offering to clean and polish the jewelry she was wearing. After persuading her, they took four gold bangles and a gold chain from her, applied a paste, and instructed her to open the packet after a few minutes to see her shiny jewelry. However, as they hurriedly fled, Meena Bang grew suspicious and followed them, only to see two individuals waiting on separate motorbikes.
Her son, Lalit Bang, filed a complaint with the Supela police, who promptly set up barriers and initiated an extensive search operation. Despite efforts, no significant leads have emerged so far. Police sources confirmed that the case has been filed under Section 318(4) of the Indian Penal Code for cheating. In addition, authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from various locations and investigating a similar case in Sanyasipara, Raipur, where the same modus operandi was reportedly used. The police are working in coordination with Khamtarai Police Station to apprehend the culprits.
