Intergem, the renowned gemstone trade fair, was set to celebrate its fourth anniversary from April 11-13 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, a region famous for its gemstones such as agate, jasper, and rock crystal. However, organizers have confirmed that the event will not take place as planned.
Mirko Arend, managing director of Messe Idar-Oberstein, expressed regret over the decision. “It has not been possible to motivate the relevant companies from the region to participate in Intergem again. Currently, new concepts for a relaunch of the fair are being discussed,” the statement noted.
Mayor Frank Frühauf also weighed in, stressing the importance of collaboration to revive Idar-Oberstein as a key trade fair destination for the industry. “We must work together to ensure that Idar-Oberstein soon becomes a shining trade fair meeting point for the industry again,” Frühauf said.
Although the anniversary edition of Intergem will not proceed, two special events initially planned to coincide with the fair are still expected to take place later this year.
