Beaverbrooks, a well-known jewellery retailer, will permanently close its Croydon location at the Whitgift Centre this spring.
The store, which has been operating since 1919, is part of a larger wave of closures across the UK. While the exact closure date has not yet been confirmed, the shop will shut its doors between March and April.
The company cited rising costs and a decline in customer traffic as reasons for the closure, making the Croydon location financially unviable. Beaverbrooks also announced that efforts would be made to retain as many staff members as possible from the affected stores.
This will be the second closure at the Whitgift Centre this year, following the earlier closure of The Entertainer. The toy store shut down due to the landlord’s plans to redevelop the shopping centre as part of Croydon’s larger regeneration project.
