In Jamaican culture, the term “rockstone” represents a pebble that symbolizes beauty and quiet strength. This concept inspired designer Symoné Currie, who was born in Jamaica, to create the Rockstone collection for Metal x Wire. Currie designed this capsule to honor the natural treasures and geological wonders of her homeland.
When I started working with gemstones for my first fine jewelry collection, I became fascinated by how stones could enhance a design,” she explains. “I was especially drawn to Jamaica’s untapped stones, so I decided to explore the island’s mining industry. Through this, I discovered a stunning variety of semiprecious stones like jaspers, agates, quartz, calcite, malachite, and azurite, found along riverbeds and fields.”
The Rockstone collection reflects this exploration, transforming these raw materials into refined, contemporary fine jewelry. Currie says it embodies the hidden gems of Jamaica.
Metal x Wire’s design team, based in New York City, worked on the collection. Currie brought the project to them as a way to bridge her two worlds, as she divides her time between Kingston, Jamaica, and New York City.
The Rockstone collection consists of three 18k gold rings. Rockstone I features Jamaican moss agate and melee diamonds. The wrap design, along with the agate’s inclusions, reflects the lush landscape of Jamaica.
Rockstone II features yellow-brown jasper hand-sourced from riverbeds in eastern Jamaica, set around the band with a center citrine stone. The combination of citrine’s brightness and jasper’s earthy tones captures the warmth and vibrancy of the island.
Rockstone III is similar to II but uses milky agate instead of jasper. It also features a 0.77 ct. marquise diamond as the center stone. The agate, hand-sourced from riverbeds, has moss-like inclusions. Currie explains that Rockstone III represents the flow of water over rocks, balancing softness and brilliance.
Each piece in the collection showcases the beauty of Jamaica’s natural stones, transformed into stunning jewelry.
