Three individuals, including a goldsmith, were arrested on Friday in connection with a jewelry snatching incident that occurred last week in Rohini’s Sector 24. Police revealed that the two snatchers had been involved in up to 50 previous crimes.
The accused are identified as Sanjay Rajesh, 39, from Samaypur Badli; Shailender Surender, 28, from Rohini; and Krishan Kanhaiya, a jeweler from Najafgarh. The victim, 33-year-old Sapna, a nursing staff member at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, reported that on March 3 at around 5:30 pm, while she was buying vegetables in Sector 24, two men on a scooter approached her and snatched her gold chain before fleeing the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini), Amit Goel, stated that the suspects were identified through CCTV footage. “We traced the scooter to Najafgarh, and when the suspects came to collect it, they were arrested. They confessed to the crime,” DCP Goel said.
The suspects admitted to selling the stolen chain to a goldsmith in Najafgarh, where Kanhaiya was later arrested, and the stolen jewelry was recovered.
This arrest has led to the resolution of five additional snatching and theft cases reported at the Begampur police station in recent months. Police confirmed that Rajesh has been linked to over 50 criminal cases, while Surender has 21 prior charges.
