LaRose Industries Recalls Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem Kits Due to Hazardous Resin

by Henry

LaRose Industries is recalling 10 versions of its Cra-Z-Art Gemex/Gel2Gem jewelry-making kits due to a safety concern. The kits contain a resin that, in its liquid form, can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization when inhaled, touched, or ingested. The resin includes hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), an acrylate compound that exceeds the safe limits established by the Federal Hazardous Substances Act for children’s products.

These jewelry-making kits were sold nationwide at major retailers, including Target, Marshall’s, T.J. Maxx, Joann stores, and others. They were also available online through Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and Joann.com.

The kits were available for purchase from January 2023 through September 2024, with prices ranging from $13 to $36.

The recall was officially implemented on March 27, 2025, and customers who purchased the affected kits are urged to follow the recall instructions to ensure their safety.
