An exhibition showcasing the illustrious jewellery creations of the prestigious French luxury brand Cartier has opened at London’s Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum. This exhibition, which began last Saturday, highlights over a century of iconic designs, including watches, tiaras, and more, with 350 jewels and objects on display.

Founded in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier in Paris, the family-run company quickly rose to prominence, becoming a favorite among royalty and Hollywood stars. Helen Molesworth, a senior jewellery curator at the V&A and the exhibition’s curator, emphasized the timeless nature of Cartier’s creations, noting their enduring appeal both to British aristocracy 100 years ago and to modern-day Hollywood royalty.

The connection between Cartier and the British royal family dates back to 1902, when King Edward VII awarded the brand its first royal warrant, formally recognizing it as a supplier of goods and services to the royal family.

Among the highlights of the exhibition is a flower brooch featuring the rare pink Williamson diamond, which was commissioned by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. She later wore the piece at the wedding of King Charles and Diana. Also on display is a 1938 rose clip brooch worn by Princess Margaret during her sister’s coronation, cementing Cartier’s deep-rooted connection with royal and historical glamour.

This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to witness Cartier’s craftsmanship and legacy, illustrating how its jewellery has adorned some of the most iconic figures in history.
