Fordham Road, a bustling commercial area in the Bronx, finds itself on edge as a spate of jewelry store burglaries has left store owners and employees vigilant and concerned for their safety.
The latest incident unfolded early Wednesday morning when thieves targeted a jewelry and phone store located on East Fordham Road. According to the NYPD Crime Scene Unit, the perpetrators gained entry to the store via the basement around 4 a.m. They made off with an estimated $10,000 worth of jewelry. Sources speaking to News 12 on condition of anonymity stated that law enforcement officers arrived on the scene just as the suspects were fleeing, resulting in the recovery of the stolen merchandise.
This burglary is just one in a series of similar incidents plaguing the area. On March 5th, a gunpoint robbery occurred at Focus, adding to the growing unease among local businesses and residents.
In another unsettling development, an attempted break-in was reported in the Fordham Road vicinity around 2 p.m. Video footage obtained by News 12 captured an individual attempting to breach the gate of a jewelry store. Remarkably, this same establishment had been targeted previously, on February 8th. During that earlier incident, two suspects forcibly entered the store, causing significant damage and making off with approximately $70,000 worth of jewelry and $30,000 worth of clothing.
The NYPD has launched investigations into both the recent burglary and the attempted break-in. However, authorities have yet to establish any conclusive links between these crimes.
As law enforcement efforts continue, business owners and residents in the Fordham Road area remain on heightened alert, grappling with concerns over their safety and security in the face of these brazen criminal activities.
