Georgian College is gearing up to showcase the creative prowess of its students with the highly anticipated opening of a student-run jewelry store and a captivating group art exhibition.

Scheduled for March 28, the grand inauguration of Georgian Jewellery marks the debut of an on-campus store managed entirely by students enrolled in the jewelry design, bench skills, and business program. Nestled within the confines of the M153 space in the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness, and Sciences, situated at Georgian’s Barrie campus, the store promises a delightful array of handcrafted jewelry pieces fashioned by first-year students. Patrons can immerse themselves in the intricate designs, with the opportunity to both purchase and admire the craftsmanship on display. Furthermore, complimentary jewelry cleaning and inspection services will be available, ensuring a comprehensive experience for visitors.

Andrea Wenckebach, esteemed professor of design and visual arts at Georgian College, emphasized the invaluable learning opportunity presented by the establishment of Georgian Jewellery. “The new store is a unique opportunity for jewelry-making students to learn about the entire process of taking their creations from design and production to marketing and sales,” she remarked. “It’s yet another example of how our students get hands-on learning experiences that will prepare them for their future careers.”

Following the excitement of the store’s grand opening, attention turns to the artistic flair of the college’s graduating cohort in the fine arts program. Dubbed “Arise!”, the group exhibition is slated to commence on the same day, March 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. Located within the enchanting confines of The Campus Gallery in the D140 space of the D building, Georgian’s Barrie campus will come alive with an eclectic display of contemporary artwork. Admission to this visual extravaganza is free of charge, inviting enthusiasts of art to immerse themselves in the creative narratives woven by nine talented student artists: Chaunte Norman, Ekjot Kaur, Hope Fogarty, Lily Grass, Paige Dickson, Parwinder Kaur, Sadie Menzies, Sirena Chipre, and Tanu Sharma.

Amy Bagshaw, director of The Campus Gallery, expressed her enthusiasm for the impending showcase, stating, “As these artists transition from their school environment to their professional arts careers, Arise! showcases their hard work over the course of their program. We’re so excited to share their art with the Georgian community.”

For those unable to attend the grand unveiling and exhibition, Georgian Jewellery will extend its opening hours to Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. Additionally, The Campus Gallery remains accessible throughout the week, welcoming visitors from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and on weekends from noon to 4 p.m.
