A fine art auction house in Shropshire achieved £140,000 in sales from a recent auction of silver, jewellery, and watches.
Halls Fine Art in Shrewsbury hosted the event, which featured nearly 500 lots and saw a 95 percent sell-through rate. This success builds on their initial silver, jewellery, and watches auction held in January.
“We are thrilled with the results and hope our vendors are pleased with the prices achieved,” said Maryanne Lineker-Mobberley, associate director and silver and jewellery specialist at Halls Fine Art. “The sold rate was excellent, with strong prices across the board, a busy saleroom, and competitive online bidding on three platforms. We are now accepting entries for our next sale on September 11.”
Watches specialist Alexander Clement was equally satisfied with the auction’s success, noting that many items sold above their estimated prices.
“Gold watches performed particularly well, but stainless steel examples also fetched excellent prices,” Clement said. “Even though wristwatch prices have stabilized since the market peak in 2022, there is still significant growth. Silver, jewellery, and watches remain strong collecting areas with a lot of interest.”
Among the notable sales, a seller from the Welshpool area earned nearly £6,000 from 17 lots, including a Robert Roskells 18-carat gold hunter pocket watch sold for £1,350 and a Russian silver and enamel bowl with a handle made from a 1727 rouble, which fetched £1,300.
A Shrewsbury vendor’s gold jewellery collection earned £4,600, and a deceased estate in the town sold a collection of silver and jewellery for £4,300. A Worcestershire vendor sold part of a jewellery collection for £2,900.
Top-selling items included a late 19th-century three-stone emerald and diamond ring, which sold for £1,000, and a Turkish-style 18-carat gold enamel and diamond fob watch, which garnered £1,250. A single stone diamond ring, valued at up to £10,000, will be sold at Halls’ fine art, antiques, and jewellery auction on June 12.
