An 18-year-old teenager has been apprehended following an alleged ram-raid at a jewellery store in Auckland last month. The incident occurred while store staff were in the process of closing.
The teenager, who was attempting to evade law enforcement, was discovered in the Mt Roskill vicinity and subsequently taken into custody.
Reportedly, the teenager was one of six individuals believed to have been involved in the targeted attack on a jewellery store in Newmarket on the evening of April 12.
Detective Sergeant Joseph Niupopo stated, “A stolen Toyota Aqua was used to reverse into the store on Broadway, while numerous staff members were in the process of closing.”
During the raid, store employees secured themselves in a rear room as the group utilized hammers and tyre irons to access display cabinets.
In connection with the incident, three individuals aged between 17 and 18 have been charged, while a 14-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid.
