Delhi Police have arrested a Chandni Chowk-based goldsmith, Sanjay Jain, 56, in connection with the theft of jewellery from airline passengers.
This arrest follows the recent apprehension of Rajesh Kapoor, a Paharganj resident, who was allegedly involved in stealing jewellery from the bags of senior citizens on flights. Police say Jain was detained earlier this week for allegedly receiving the stolen items.
The investigation began after a Hyderabad-based woman, en route to the US from Delhi, reported the theft of jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh from her handbag. She filed a zero FIR, prompting police action.
Following Kapoor’s arrest last week, information he provided led authorities to Jain. Police accuse Jain of being part of the theft conspiracy.
According to police, the suspects have targeted passengers on approximately 200 flights in the past year. Previously, they focused on victims in AC train coaches.
