A delegation from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) recently visited Brazil, Colombia, and Panama. The purpose of the visit was to explore markets, boost India’s exports, and strengthen economic ties in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region. From May 21 to 29, the group, led by GJEPC chairman Kirit Bhansali, aimed to enhance India’s gem and jewellery exports through stronger economic connections and collaborative opportunities in Latin America.

In Brazil, the delegation held important discussions with industry leaders to explore potential collaborations and market expansions. They met with IBGM director Ecio Morais to discuss an India Pavilion at the Feninjer jewellery show. Talks were also held with the Monte Carlo group and the CEO of SAUER Group about strengthening business ties and potential partnerships. Additionally, meetings with ESMEBRAS and major retailers like H Stern and Vivara provided valuable networking opportunities.

In Colombia, the delegation worked on strengthening trade relations. They began with a networking lunch with Shri Vanlalhuma, the Indian ambassador to Colombia, to discuss promoting Indian jewellery. The delegation toured local jewellery markets to understand trends and consumer preferences. Interactions with Colombian jewellers, facilitated by Mubri president and LAC GJEPC coordinator Ali Pastorini, highlighted the potential for Indian jewellers to meet the growing demand for high-quality, diverse jewellery products. The delegation also sought to encourage participation in the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) and upcoming Buyer-Seller Meets by gaining insights into Colombia’s import and export policies.

In Panama, the delegation focused on strengthening India’s presence in the LAC region’s gems and jewellery sector. Sumit Seth, the Indian ambassador to Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, emphasized the importance of bolstering economic ties between India and Panama. An event organized by the Embassy and GJEPC highlighted shared trade goals, while a networking dinner allowed Indian and Panamanian companies to explore technological advancements and potential collaborations.

GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah expressed pride in the progress made during the visit. He stated, “Our engagements in Brazil, Colombia, and Panama have showcased the unparalleled craftsmanship and diversity of India’s gems and jewellery sector. These visits have paved the way for enduring partnerships. We are committed to expanding India’s footprint in the global market, and this tour has been a significant step towards strengthening our economic ties with the Latin American and Caribbean region. The future is bright, and we look forward to a flourishing exchange of culture, commerce, and trading of gems and jewellery in these vibrant regions.”
